Building and Sustaining a SchoolOver a three year period the Building Fund will donate at least $6,000 to The Young Apostles International School to aid in the construction of a library. After the completion of the current construction project The Building Fund will continue to support the maintenance of the school by donating at least $1,000 each year thereafter. The YAIS Community LibraryTo celebrate the opening of the library the students, parents and community of Daban Panin gathered for a ceremony. The school will not be one of very few in the Kumasi area with a library. The library will not only benifit members of the school, but also students, teachers and parents of the larger community who wich to further their education. Please click here to view pictures. The YAIS Community CenterIn cooperation with Architecture For Humanity (AFH) and The Young Apostles International School (YAIS), The Building Fund is embarking on an ambitious project to build and furnish a community center in Daban Panin, Ghana. Serving over eleven thousand people, the community center will house a health clinic, library, computer lab, and space for social and educational programs. The project will benefit twelve townships as the sole space dedicated to community programming and provide much needed health and learning services. To view plans for the community center please click here.
In the area served by YAIS, HIV/AIDS is prevalent, leaving many orphaned children without the resources needed to attend school. Nearly 50% of the students attending YAIS are orphaned or low income students needing financial assistance to afford an education. Challenged with decreased enrollment of these students, and with many students leaving school mid year because they are unable to afford their school fees YAIS needs increased support and services to maintain enrollment and benefit the community as a whole. A community center at YAIS would provide the school with the resources needed to maintain and increase the schools enrollment while ensuring that students have access to educational services and health care. The community center will provide important services such as HIV/ADIS education, classrooms, a library and a space for the community to come together to celebrate its accomplishments. It will be the first and only space of this kind in the area, and will help improve the lives of thousands.
