The Building Fund is run entirely by the support of volunteers and so donations made to The Building Fund directly support the programs of the organization. The Building Fund is looking for volunteers to help the organization grow and meet its commitment to providing opportunities in education. Why Ghana, why The Tuskegee School? In the summer of 2004 Jessyca Dudley spent 2 months as a volunteer teacher at The Tuskegee International School of Ghana, West Africa. During her time at the school she spent a lot of time wishing that the school had the same type of resourses that had been available to her. Upon her return she began The Building Fund in order to help the school complete its buildings and provide its students with the materials that they lacked. Why does The Building Fund support education in Ghana when they have a tuition free school system?Although Ghana supports free primary education, providing education for all children involves more than simply enrolling children in school. Investments in infrastructure, teaching training, curriculum development, classroom materials, and overall quality are still needed to provide quality education. As a developing nation, Ghana does not have the capacity to provide quality basic education for all children, although it is actively working to meet this goal. The demand for education in Ghana, since the introduction of free primary education, far out weighs the ability of the country to accommodate all students and has placed a tremendous strain on the education system. While the government in Ghana will bear the brunt of education financing, international assistance is an important catalyst to encouraging growth and a commitment to higher quality education. To this end, The Building Fund works to create and sustain opportunities in education by ensuring that resources in the form of classes, schools, scholarships, volunteer opportunities and educational funding, is available to as many children as the organization is capable of reaching.
